Instant messaging (IM) platforms have become a staple in the modern organization, and despite their often fragmented and casual nature, IMs cans frequently contain information relevant to the e-discovery process. With that considered, software developer Recommind's latest update to it's Axcelerate e-discovery platform adds support for multiple instant message platforms, including Bloomberg, Google Chat and Skype.

Axcelerate 5.5, which was announced Aug. 26, and will be on display at next week's ILTACON in Las Vegas, allows users to quickly collect, analyze and prepare information from common IM platforms. The update not only applied Axcelerate's machine learning, visualization and analysis capabilities to instant messages, but also will improve processing speed and the multi-matter dashboard to previous installations.

“The focus on instant messaging review is driven by need, as everything in e-discovery solution space is. Chat has become the new email, and institutionalized players are using chat across organizations on a regular basis,” Hal Marcus, product marketing manager at Recommind, explained in an interview with Legaltech News.
