The Electronic Discovery Institute (EDI) has scheduled two in-depth programs for mid-October, including a new federal judges' training program on the proposed amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP). EDI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity devoted to studies and training at the intersection of law and technology.
The fifth annual EDI Leadership Summit is scheduled for October 15-16, 2015, at the Ritz Carlton in New Orleans. Shari Aberle, partner at Dorsey and Whitney LLP, and Julie Richer, legal technology program manager at American Electric Power, will co-chair the event.
In addition, for the first time, EDI and the Federal Judicial Center are co-producing a one-day program–“The Judicial Training Symposium – the Foundations of the Federal Rules: Proportionality, Scope, Cost & Reasonableness.” This program will explore the proposed (and almost sure to be adopted on December 1) amendments to the FRCP. A stellar faculty of judges, practitioners, government lawyers and academics have volunteered to teach 50 federal district and magistrate judges. The 50 attendees were selected by the FJC to participate from among approximately 130 judges who applied to attend. This training will occur on Oct. 14, the day before the Summit's sessions begin, and all the participants are invited to stay for the Summit as well. The Judicial Training Symposium represents a significant investment by EDI into the organization's ever-expanding non-profit educational mission. EDI developed the program with the FJC in order to help fill the gap created by the cancellation of the FJC's annual e-discovery training programs, which fell victim to budget cutting.
