Does the idea of finding a private, nude photo of yourself on the Internet make you a bit squeamish? If you are in the majority, you would rather that happen than have your personal banking information made public.

A survey conducted by mobile security firm Avast Software of 6,800 U.S. consumers, found that 76 percent of respondents would rather have nude photos of themselves released publicly than their personal banking information. More than 40 percent of U.S. respondents consider their banking information the most private data on their smartphones, while less than 10 percent listed private/racy photos.

Brad Berkshire, vice president, consulting and digital forensics at Planet Data said that, during device recovery and discovery engagement, he has seen or has had access to all examples of personal data kept on a smartphone. “Health care records, financial data, credit card information, family photos, private correspondence, etc. Mobile devices are more than just a modern briefcase or a PDA,” he said. “They have become single repositories of all the information we use on a daily basis, both personal and work related.”
