Modern-day cybersecurity takes a team. That fact has already been established among corporate legal departments that are increasingly relying on law firms and third-party vendors—especially as the cost of breaches skyrockets.

But for all the help given to the corporate world, less seen are partnerships between their law firms and third-party security providers. Data breach risk management and identity theft solution provider Merchants Information Solutions and law firm Jackson Lewis are attempting to change this paradigm, entering into an alliance aimed at helping small and mid-sized companies with breaches.

The alliance, the two parties say, will allow users of Merchants' SmartIDentity for Business platform to engage Jackson Lewis cybersecurity experts and breach coaches to provide legal counsel in the event of a data incident. This partnership, which also includes pre-breach planning and post-breach resolution, will focus on protecting customer and employee information, responding to state and federal breach notification laws, and supporting reputational risk management.
