There's a shortage of women in science, technology, engineering and math. And there's still a 17 percent gender gap in pay—across the board—in all of legal (18 percent at Big Law). But within the legal technology community are many women with thriving careers. Monica Bay recently interviewed Darlene Tonelli, 40, a Toronto, Canada lawyer who splits her time between two companies: Inter Alia Law and Codify Legal Publishing.

Education: University of Toronto, LL.B/J.D (2001). University of Calgary, Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Political Science (1998). Admitted in Ontario, Canada.
Current Job: I am the founder of Inter Alia Law, launched in January 2013. It provides outsourced in-house counsel services to companies and large law firms. I am also vice president, legal, at Codify Legal Publishing, where I advise on all commercial deals with Codify's partners and secure the necessary licensing for their product. (I have been wearing both hats for the last two years.)
