2017 was a pretty quiet year for legal technology investment, raising eyebrows for market researchers who were hoping to see venture capitalists and private equity funders funnel more money into legal-facing companies. In 2018, it looks like the legal tech market may finally be seeing that bounce back. In the first two months of the year alone, we've already seen five major acquisitions, two mergers and six major equity investments among legal technology companies (note: this data is based on the year's total data collected by the author). While the majority of these still revolve around the e-discovery space, with six deals in this space to date, legal technologists working on document collaboration, cybersecurity and analytics projects are seeing some noticeable market attention early in the year.
