Last fall, legal services company Counsel on Call stepped into the e-discovery game, acquiring e-discovery group DSicovery (DSi). Now, with a new direction firmly in hand after one year, the combined company is marking its development with a new name as well.

On November 13, Counsel on Call announced that it has changed its name to Legility, a portmanteau of “legal” and “agility.” The new name, the company said, reflects that company's focus and commitment to “finding innovative and agile ways” to find outcomes for law firms and corporate legal departments.

“We believe this name meets head-on the balance between innovative and established,” said Legility CEO Barry Dark in a press release announcing the name change. “We are one company transforming the way legal services are delivered through people, scalable work processes, and technology.”

Under its new moniker, Legility is offering a wide variety of legal services, including flexible legal talent, e-discovery and data solutions, deal support, regulatory and compliance support, and more. The company deems itself as part of a “New Law” faction of alternative legal service providers that aims for lower-cost, more efficient outcomes.

“We're combining technology and process to provide on-demand services better, faster and cheaper,” Dark said. “We are no longer the alternative. We're excited to be part of this New Law paradigm.”

Headquartered in Nashville, Counsel on Call was founded in 2000 by attorney Jane Allen as a more flexible alternative legal services provider. The company today says it has 1,000 lawyers, engineers, consultants, technology and data specialists, and operational experts on staff working out of 10 home cities, with clients including more than one-third of the Fortune 100 and one-quarter of the Am Law 200.
