It's easy to look at data breaches as the problems faced by the private sector. Mainly because it's companies that often make announcements of clients' sensitive data being breached, their vows to work diligently to correct the matter and the ensuing litigation or law enforcement action that follows. But recently cities have grabbed headlines for the hacks that have shut down or significantly disrupted government agencies' work. While the Philadelphia court system said its month-long shutdown was self-imposed to contain a "virus intrusion," Baltimore and two Florida cities announced their online government features were held for ransom. The recent spate of government hacks highlighted in the slideshow above shows cyberattacks aren't just the burden of the private industry.
