The relative anonymity of social media can lend itself to a lot of misconceptions, usually about the people you're interacting with across any given platform. However, in headline after headline, it's become clear over the past few years that there are many other privacy implications that are easy to take for granted as well. Whether it's information that platforms are quietly collecting, data surreptitiously transferred from one site to another, or even the tidbits that people freely give away about themselves online, social media has created potential privacy holes faster than the law can hope to plug them. As for the users... well, you can't say they haven't been warned.
