A lot has been made of the challenges facing law firms and legal technology providers with this new COVID-19 paradigm. From information technology challenges of setting up virtual private networks and laptops, to security of documents outside the office and Zoom calls, to even having enough internet bandwidth to conduct e-discovery, the novel coronavirus has brought with it novel tech challenges to the legal industry. Well, for corporate legal departments, those challenges are super-sized. Not only do legal departments deal in similar security and IT concerns, but they also function as part of a larger corporate organization, often dealing with communication and coordination challenges that are more complex than those in firms and legal tech companies.
