The U.S. is currently stuttering through a reopening from a COVID-19 induced shut down as privacy concerns have reached a feverish peak. With this reopening, the proponents of contact tracing apps tout their effectiveness. But consumer privacy has been beating a drum globally for enough time now that even in the U.S., privacy proponents are gaining ground. And what appears to be a balancing test between individual privacy and public safety has been launched. With the news that contact tracing apps like Care19, North and South Dakota's contact tracing app, have been sharing location and other data with third parties and increased scrutiny from tech companies themselves as to how their technologies are being used, privacy appears to be ahead.
