The COVID-19 pandemic has not been kind to the e-discovery industry. In the early days, with courts shut down and legal proceedings halted, many instances of e-discovery work were postponed or scrapped altogether, leading some e-discovery tech or services providers to enact layoffs and furloughs. But there was never any doubt that demand for e-discovery work, an essential part of litigation and investigations, would return in full force. With court reopenings going slowly amid a resurgent COVID-19, however, it's likely that the industry may have to wait a while longer to return. Yet at least one thing is certain: While e-discovery isn't going anywhere, it's no longer to be defined by the same processes, market or culture as it has been in the past.
