It's likely that more than a few law firms have watched the rise of alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) with some trepidation. For centuries, law firms have only had to compete with each other for clients' business. But with a new type of player entering the fold, especially one focused on tech-enabled efficiency, it may be a whole new market. Luckily for firms, however, change doesn't happen overnight. Though the market has already become more competitive, and firms have ceded some ground to these newcomers, ALSPs haven't pushed firms to more tightly embrace technology—or give up their most innovative offshoots. While more changes may be in store for the future, for now, ALSPs' market disruption isn't as widespread as some feared.
