Many legal departments may still not be using some type of project management solution, a posture that could be directly at odds with a strong desire to have actionable data regarding the use of external and internal resources. And while general counsel might be facing pressure to make their departments function more like a business unit, a lack of information technology support and employee buy-in could prevent them from adopting the technology anytime soon.

Nevertheless, the need remains. A 2020 Legal Operations Survey published last month by Deloitte showed that 74% of respondents felt they do not have clear or accurate metrics on work performed internally or externally. But when asked, another 71% indicated that they do not have dedicated project management software.
