As e-discovery companies look to establish more holistic services around risk management and information governance, they've turned to M&A to help bridge gaps in their offering and expand their end-to-end capabilities.

On Thursday, Exterro announced that it acquired digital forensics and e-discovery provider AccessData. Though Exterro did not disclose the amount for which it purchased the company, it did note that the acquisition was a "nine-figure" deal.

Exterro CEO Bobby Balachandran told Legaltech News that AccessData's technology will be integrated into Exterro's core offerings, though the company will keep AccessData's Forensic Toolkit (FTK) brand. He added that AccessData will remain a separate entity and that its employees will continue on under the Exterro umbrella.
