Corporate law departments make up a sizable portion of the legal ecosystem, but whether that audience is being served to its fullest potential by legal technology providers is a question without an easy answer.

Richard Susskind, author of the book “Tomorrow’s Lawyers,” touched on the subject during Ironclad’s “State of Digital Contracting, Winter 2020: AI and the Elusive Promise of Smart Contracting” event earlier this month. He estimated that 95% of the current legal technology market was devoted to providing tech for law firms. But Susskind also foresaw a shift coming that might see more products designed with legal departments and non-lawyers in mind.
