GDPR Data Breaches Result In Fines of Nearly €300M, Survey Shows
Italy has imposed the highest amount in the way of fines, while Germany reported the most data breaches, according to a report by DLA Piper.

European regulators have imposed a total of €272.5 million in fines since 2018 for breaches of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), according to a report released by DLA Piper.
A total of 158.5 million in fines were imposed in from January 2020 to January 2021, and increase of 39 percent compared to the preceding 20-month period, the report shows. In the same period, 121,165 breaches were reported, compared to 101,403 breaches in the previous year – an increase of 19%.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments.
