If a corporate legal department is considering bringing some e-discovery services in-house, they should first start collecting and analyzing metrics. 

On Wednesday, a panel of corporate e-discovery leaders at the "How to Strike the Right Balance Between In-House Software and Outside Specialists" session of Legalweek(year) 2021 provided their suggestions and tips for in-sourcing e-discovery. 

To be sure, no corporate legal department is likely to have all the necessary resources, talent or storage to meet every investigation's e-discovery demands, speakers noted. But if corporate legal departments are up for the challenge, internally performing some e-discovery tasks is feasible. First, corporate legal departments most honestly assess their e-discovery usage and needs, said panelist and AbbVie information governance and e-discovery operations associate director Constance Mockaitis.
