Rhys Dipshan: Hiring more diverse staff should be enough of a moral imperative to happen naturally. But as many of us know, that's rarely the case. And that's especially true in legal, which has arguably been one of the industries that has made the least amount of progress on this front over the past few decades. So how does one move the needle? Well, if legal is increasingly being called upon to operate more like a business, making the business case for diversity may be just what it takes to spur progress.

Fortunately, it's a fairly easy case to make. "Lots of data shows that diverse teams can be more profitable," said Bryan Parker, CEO of Legal Innovators, at today's "Opportunity for Diverse Legaltech Founders to Make Their Mark" panel. Added co-panelist Wendy Butler Curtis, chief innovation officer at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe: "When you have diversity in leadership, you outperform… It's because they're more likely to be successful—all the data shows that."
