Legal departments want their firms to be innovating, and judging by the market, they should be more than satisfied. Among other things, law firms are taking steps to incorporate technology into their services or workflows, whether it's partnering with tech companies to automate document review, building matter-tracking dashboards or even incubating new legal tech companies from scratch. But firms and their clients may still have some very different ideas about what innovation should look like. It also doesn't help that outside counsel often struggle to articulate how their technology will improve the delivery of legal services—especially in the eyes skeptical clients predisposed towards alternative legal service providers (ALSPs). Above we look at four reasons that firms' innovation efforts may not be making inroads with clients.
