While virtual arbitrations are an efficiency bonanza that will likely continue long after COVID-19 subsides, arbitration software might not enjoy similar success. While arbitrators noted there's still a need for some legal-specific software, Zoom and the like are viewed largely as adequate enough to handle the bulk of remote proceedings.

To be sure, the acceptance of virtual arbitrations was no easy feat, with perhaps only a global pandemic being able to spur adoption. In spring 2020, as COVID-19 lockdowns spread, some arbitrators still scoffed at the notion of remotely arbitrating matters. Many cited the lack of in-person interactions with witnesses as a significant disadvantage for virtual proceedings.
