Only a decade ago, Big Law firms dominated the legal market.

The law firms with the greatest resources at their disposal were often favored for the big ticket deals, leaving smaller firms who lacked the manpower to take on larger cases unable to compete.

But the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI), which allows lawyers to get on with higher-value tasks whilst the technology does the grunt work, is changing the features of the legal landscape. Now, small-to medium-sized firms are beginning to challenge the status quo, using technology to give them a competitive edge and enable them to compete for work previously reserved for larger firms, whilst alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) are becoming increasing powerful forces within the market.
