With legal innovation it’s sometimes one step forward, two steps back. The new 2021 State of Legal Operations Survey released by Deloitte on Thursday found that while legal departments may be growing more strategic in their implementation of technology, misaligned resources and a disorganized approach to data can undermine even the best-laid plans. 

“We heard a lot around training and development—of people not knowing how to use the tools that they have. We heard a lot about change management and lack of adoption being the biggest issues within legal,” said Ashley Smith, managing director, legal business services at Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics LLP.
