Risk and ComplianceSince its passing in 1972, Title IX has played a consistent and pivotal role in ensuring greater equality in federally funded educational establishments. Since 2011, the government has conducted 502 Title IX investigations of institutions charged with mishandling reports of sexual violence.
With equity and inclusion moving to the forefront of the public agenda, individuals are now more confident in stepping forward with complaints. Additionally, the recommendations of the March 2021 Husch Blackwell Louisiana State University report have kept Title IX in the spotlight.
In the end, some investigations conclude quietly, while others result in a negotiated agreement mandating the policies and procedures a college must adopt or change.
