2021 has seen growth for practice management software provider Clio, marked by a $110 million Series E investment in April and acquisitions of Lawyaw and Calendar Rules. And now to manage that growth, Clio is expanding the size of its executive board—doubling it, in fact.

Today, Clio announced that the company is appointing a new chief operating officer, chief people officer, chief technology officer and chief marketing officer, increasing the size of its C-suite from four to eight. The appointments are comprised of a mix of external hires and internal promotions, including:

  • Ronnie Gurion, chief operating officer, formerly GM and global head of Uber for Business;
  • Sarah Bettencourt, chief people officer, formerly chief people officer at Lightspeed and PointClickCare;
  • Jonathan Watson, chief technology officer, formerly Clio's VP of engineering; and
  • Reagan Attle, chief marketing officer, formerly Clio's VP of marketing.

The move allows the company to "extend our capabilities on all fronts, including our products, people, operations, in what's becoming an exciting and fast-paced market for cloud-based legal technology," said Clio CEO and founder Jack Newton in a press release.

Clio's Series E fundraising round earlier this year valued the company at $1.6 billion, making it one of the few legal tech companies to reach the $1 billion valuation mark. Newton pointed to the investment in announcing the expanded C-suite, adding, "Clio's Series E funding was a milestone in Clio's growth trajectory. We have a world-class leadership and investment team that is positioning us to build a generational company that will transform the legal experience for all."
