State Bar leaders on Friday voted to continue work on a so-called regulatory sandbox, even as some lawyers and lawmakers criticized the proposal to allow nonlawyers to offer new forms of legal services.

In an online meeting, the bar’s board of trustees agreed with staff recommendations to restart the idled Closing the Justice Gap Working Group, but with changes. The group’s subcommittees will be eliminated and the amount of bar staff time spent working on the proposal will be reduced.
