Unlike other legal technologies, contract lifecycle management (CLM) software generally requires adoption and buy-in from not only the corporate legal department but other sections of the company as well. Such a broad use case entails not only including members of various departments in CLM system training but tailoring that training to users' unit-specific processes. "Once you start implementing CLM, you're really going from legal to the entire enterprise," noted Jim Mitchell, managing director of Stout Risius Ross's legal management consulting practice. "It's not all about legal. Certainly the legal users are vital for the workflow of getting the contract done, but you're touching a wider span of the organization, and remember that when you're training them."
