Slaughter and May has included specific switch-off times for its lawyers as part of its new work-life balance code, in a move that is likely to raise eyebrows across the industry.

Lawyers have been told they will not be expected to check emails between 10pm and 8am, unless it is considered “necessary”, according to a person with knowledge of the firm. One caveat is that lawyers will still be expected to be contactable by phone.
