At the Legalweek 2023 Session "Privacy Law Proliferation: A U.S., U.K., and EU Privacy Update" on Tuesday, law firms and in-house attorneys involved in privacy compliance discussed what global developments to watch for in the coming months.

A Growing U.S. Patchwork

While this year has seen the number of states with active privacy laws grow to five, that number will likely increase by the year's end. "Just last week Iowa passed its first comprehensive privacy bill. … I think we're starting to add to that patchwork of frameworks," said Danielle Manner, chief privacy officer at Gilead Sciences.
