These days, legal’s race to artificial intelligence proficiency is well underway. On March 6, DLA Piper announced the hiring of chief data scientist Bennett Borden, from Faegre, Drinker, Biddle & Reath. The news comes on the heels of firms like Debevoise & Plimpton doubling their AI practice and Allen & Overy launching Harvey.

Borden spoke to Legaltech News about how he plans to lead the team of scientists and attorneys at DLA Piper’s AI practice in the coming months amid a rapidly evolving AI landscape. DLA Piper also recently announced its use of Casetext’s GPT-4-powered tool CoCounsel, which Borden sees several use cases for beyond just legal research.
