After over 22 years as special agent in charge and the head of the Washington cyber division of the FBI, Timothy Gallagher made the switch to the private cybersecurity sector in May, becoming the managing director and chief security officer at cyber investigation firm Nardello & Co.

When he initially started at the FBI in 1996, the concept of cybersecurity was different from what it is today, with a higher focus on financial fraud—which was Gallagher’s area of specialty. However, as cyberthreats grew along with the internet, mushrooming into what they are today, his focus shifted.
