While the legal industry is still debating how, and when, to deploy generative artificial intelligence, it seems consumers have already formed a strong opinion of the role that the new technology should play in legal—and for many, it’s nonexistent.

A recent survey from e-discovery provider DISCO conducted in June 2023 and polling 1,000 general U.S.-based consumers over 18 years old highlighted some of the lingering concerns around the technology, especially when used by regulated industries like legal.
