On Thursday, DraftWise, which offers a generative artificial intelligence-powered contract drafting, knowledge and collaboration platform that operates within Microsoft Word, announced a $20 million series A funding round led by Index Ventures, with participation from existing investors Y Combinator and Earlybird Digital East Ventures.

The new investment comes less than a year after the startup secured $5 million in a seed financing round that saw participation from law firm Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe. At the time, Draftwise CEO and co-founder James Ding said that funding will be used to expand staffing and market presence.

Now, the company is looking to leverage its new $20 million investment "to strengthen and expand its industry-leading Contract Intelligence platform," according to a news release announcing the funding round.
