U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York on Tuesday sentenced Ryan Salame, a former executive at the defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX, to seven and a half years in prison for his role in two illegal schemes involving FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried.

Prosecutors had requested that Salame receive a sentence of five to seven years, while Salame’s attorneys Jason Linder and Gina Parlovecchio of Mayer Brown argued that a lower sentence of 18 months would be appropriate.
