On Monday, legal operations technology startup Ruli announced that it closed on a $2.2 million pre-seed funding round led by venture capital firm SignalFire, with participation from a number of additional investors, including Bruce Gibney, a well-known venture capitalist who has backed PayPal and Palantir, among other tech companies.

Founded in 2024 by Bryan Lee, a former Allen & Overy associate who most recently worked in product management and development roles at Google and Meta, Ruli offers a legal operations platform with two modules. The first, LegalDesk, looks to automate legal intake and responses to common legal questions, while the second, CoPilot, uses AI to streamline knowledge management and document review, analysis, summarization and drafting.

Lee, who is also Ruli's CEO, told Legaltech News that Ruli will use the new investment to expand its headcount and offerings. "We plan to use the funds right now to grow the team and we have things on the roadmap to build deeper future feature capabilities," he said.
