The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear a First Amendment challenge to a Texas law that the adult entertainment industry says places an unconstitutional burden on the ability of adults to access online sexual content.

The court granted review in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton, taking up the American Civil Liberties Union’s bid to reinstate an injunction against Texas’ H.B.1181 on behalf of a group of online pornography companies and an adult industry trade association. The law requires websites that post significant sexual material to demand identification from online users with penalties ranging up to $10,000 per day.
