On Wednesday, LexisNexis legal analytics company Lex Machina announced the launch of Full Federal, its legal analytics for federal district court data.

Full Federal allows users to filter through and view outcomes of 3.7 million federal district court cases, assisting legal professionals and their clients in analyzing cases. Full Federal represents Lex Machina adding the final 15%, or approximately 500,000, of civil federal cases to its dataset.

The launch of Full Federal comes seven months after Lex Machina released Litigation Footprint, which tripled the total number of cases on its platform.

What is it: Full Federal is a section of Lex Machina’s legal analytics built on datasets focused on federal district court cases.

Lex Machina aims to provide data driven insights in Full Federal to inform the decisions legal professionals make on their cases.

The solution includes information on case’s lawyers, law firms, judges, and parties, among other data points.

Full Federal also provides outcome analytics like remedies and damages for each area of law. For example, a user can find out how much a judge awarded for damages among employment cases they’ve overseen.

Full Federal also has new features like Findings Search which lets users analyze how cases are being won by directly searching for results on the legal merits, and Custom Columns which allows users to create and share reports, and find cases with similar analytics.

Overall, Lex Machina has data insights across 22 federal practice areas as well as a growing number of state courts. Full Federal contains 500,000 uncategorized cases which are cases that do not fit into one of the 22 practice areas.
