Large language models and other emerging AI technologies (“AI”) show incredible promise in the document review space, but adoption is painfully slow. This article proposes a shift in focus towards integrating generative AI into various document review tasks beyond traditional TAR-like functions. It also highlights how AI can add new value that organizations should seriously consider.

AI has generated lots of buzz—and even more skepticism—in the document review world. While it’s proven wildly effective at scaling in other industries, adoption has barely inched forward in the document review space. Courts remain silent, and decision-makers hesitate to delegate production determinations over to a judicially untested technology. But what if we stop pushing AI to replace traditional review methods and instead leverage it as a supplement?
