Our professionals are constantly on the move, and in 2007, it became clear that we could reduce our business costs by adopting technology tools to help us reduce travel, which was hampering productivity and client service. We needed a way to securely access and exchange files in real time. Remote access technology seemed to be the most obvious answer to our challenge.

In my role as managing attorney, I spearheaded the evaluation, with straightforward criteria. We needed affordable, reliable technology suitable to a small organization. In other words, it needed to be installed and managed without a dedicated on-site IT team. Above all, we knew that it must be safe and secure, given client confidentiality requirements and the sensitive nature of files being exchanged among our attorneys, clients, and outside legal and allied professional firms. We use both PCs and Apple (www.apple.com) computers, so we needed the ability to support both operating systems and:

  • Securely send sensitive information to clients without the complications and LTN-Security risks associated with e-mailing large files.
  • Remotely access our computer desktops, applications, files, and network.
  • Print remote files and forms to a local printer.
  • Quickly synchronize files on our computers.
