Today’s lawyers—and clients—have no tolerance for computing downtime. They expect recovery time to be measured in minutes, not days. Clients insist on knowing how your firm will protect its confidential data in the event of a disaster, small or large. In fact, most requests for proposals for legal services now require detailed answers and some form of a written recovery/business continuity plan.

These new expectations are dramatically changing how firms view disaster recovery efforts, shifting emphasis to protecting business continuity planning. But DR/BC programs are not inexpensive. An effective DR/BC program can cost millions of dollars in up-front capital and hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual maintenance and support costs. When it comes down to budget lines, many IT leaders still face push back for big-ticket expenditures.
