How will Vista fly in our tech community? Time will tell. We do tend to wait a bit before diving into the water. We conducted a quick poll on The Common Scold, www.thecommonscold.com, and found, as of press time, that 9.4% of respondents had already loaded up Vista. Another 17% say they’ll launch this year; but 37.7% say not before ’08; and 17% plan to hold off until after ’08; (17% are Mac users). First reactions: Andrew Jurczyk, CIO at Sonnenschein, gives it a thumbs up. He upgraded his home system, and likes the new interface and automatic updates. “I spend much less time administering my system.” He’s also a fan of the new search and index tools.

Consultant Bruce McEwen also cites the “snappy, effective integrated search built into the start button,” but dislikes the “breathtakingly annoying ‘cancel/allow’ box” that is already being mocked by Apple advertisements. New Hampshire’s Dan Coolidge is not a fan. “Hate it. Too intrusive security, doesn’t work with a lot of my software, going back to XP.” Consultant Loren Jones’ advice? “Wait a year.” By then, Jones says, the bugs will be squashed.”>
