Two years ago, the LTRC survey reported that only 11.7 percent of attorneys were using any litigation support tools. LTN’s experts attributed that to several factors: including fear of costs and potential embarrassment, worry about possible impaired productivity, and even ignorance about even what constitutes lit support technology.
But this year’s numbers aren’t much better. When asked if lit support software was available in their firms, only 30 percent answered yes, 53.2 percent no, and 17.3 didn’t know. Of those who said yes, 51 percent don’t use it. Says Reach, a member of the LTN edit board: “It’s clear that lit support vendors have a real opportunity — but only if they create and price products appropriate for smaller firms, and truly educate their customers about the power of the technology.”
