In 2003, we realized that we needed to centralize our document management operations, and embarked on a project that ran into 2005. We had been using Hewlett-Packard Co. 9100c Digital Senders as our network scanners, and moving documents into Interwoven Inc.’s WorkSite document management system.

Although we scanned documents to files, and stored and shared them electronically, we were using a PDF format that was not fully searchable and editable. Converting images into a text-searchable PDF format required the assistance of our IT staff, and was time-consuming. The file sizes were enormous, causing significant server and storage issues.
