At January’s LegalTech New York, the recent trend toward the application of project management (PM) was Topic A in the EDD sessions. Without a doubt, using PM principles to mitigate risk and deliver consistent, quality results represents a significant benchmark in the maturing process in the EDD arena.

The LTNY EDD track offered six panels, Jan. 30-31. From session to session, the value of project management was clear. In the panel discussion “Lessons Learned: Overcoming IT Hazards in Electronic Evidence.” Steven Bennett, of Jones Day, spoke of the increasing role of project advisors, who are the functional equivalent to “owner’s representative” in the construction industry. The project advisors provide oversight and coordination on projects, and assist with every aspect from the “request for proposal” screenings, to vendor selection, to planning and monitoring activities of all project team members (service providers, law firms, and the client).
