Microsoft Word 2003 for Law Firms, from the Payne Consulting Group, is a tome of a book that you’d never pull off the shelf for light reading. Nevertheless, it’s a valuable manual to have in your IT library and contains one chapter (#18) that should be required reading for anyone sending out electronic documents from your firm.

On the whole, it does a good job of teaching legal Microsoft Word users about the ins and outs of the latest version. There are ample screenshots, decent tutorials and a useful, hearty index. The book covers basics such as text and table formatting and dives into legal-specific issues, such as creating pleading captions and the world of WordPerfect to Word conversions.
