It’s not surprising, given the intense merger and acquisition activity over the last five years (for both firms and legal technology vendors). Yesterday’s large firm of 300 lawyers is today’s midsized organization, as big operations now register 1,000-plus lawyers.
In the past, a key project could be handed over to an interested partner. No longer. Today’s big firms have corridors full of “C-level” executive staff, from COOs directors to seasoned IT staff. You may find more MBAs than JDs in those offices.
