Well, like 95 percent of Manhattanites, this fall I also took advantage of the current financial climate to refinance my co-op apartment. I didn’t use a lawyer, because I am an attorney, and it wasn’t complicated.

But my experience with the bank’s law firm, a mid-sized Wall Street shop assigned to handle the close, gave me new insight into why so many Americans hate lawyers. I will exercise immense compassion and not mention the firm by name, hoping that maybe they will reform their lousy customer service.
