Most of us figure that the future is bound to look like the present, only more so. And sometimes that’s right. More often it isn’t. The future has a way of sneaking up on you and injecting something totally unexpected, yet immensely logical looking back, into the mix.
Who would have predicted that the top winner of the technology revolution so far would be a cyberspaced garage sale?1 Or that some fellow from Finland would be nipping at Bill Gates’ heels?2 Or that senior partners would run around thumbing messages into a little black box.3
