Some questions that left me scratching my head, like “How often do you use chat rooms for legal research?” Someone actually thought lawyers were doing legal research in chat rooms? Fortunately for the profession, less than 0.5 percent cited them as a “very often” source for legal research!

But one area where lawyers do seem to be embracing legal technology is in the area of research. Jury verdicts/settlements research still heavily favors print (61 percent). Most legal news is also obtained via print (58 percent), as does rsearching case dockets (37 percent). But the combination of fee-based Web services (19 percent) and free Web services (24 percent) exceeds the print preferences. Add in proprietary online services (14 percent), and online usage takes a sizeable lead. The extesive use of online legal citators is no surprise, with more than 74 percent using cite checking.
