I never object to an opportunity to go back home to California, especially when the weather is rotten in New York (lately, like the joke about Minnesota, we seem to have only two seasons: winter and August). More importantly, I’m still infatuated with the nuances of business uses for social media, so I was delighted to chair the “Social Media: Risks & Rewards” conference in San Francisco. Highlights included American Express’ Mark Bisard’s discussion about setting up @AskAmex on Twitter, to intercept and address consumer issues. Get a taste on our podcast, www.lawtechnologynow.com.
I also had a chance to spend time with LTN edit board members James McKenna, senior manager of infrastructure at Morrison Foerster, and Matthew Kessner, CTO of Fenwick & West. McKenna introduced me to MoFo’s new CIO, Neeraj Rajpal, and we talked briefly about how establishing repeatable tech processes will be increasingly important. Kessner was joined by Fenwick’s SharePoint guru Mark Gerow and IT director Kevin Moore. We pondered the changes confronting our legal IT community, including a trend towards IT staff cutbacks.
